The Babel Trunk

An imaginative and pessimistic satire, The Babel Trunk is a short film inspired by the plays of Samuel Beckett.

Alone in a room with no apparent entrance or exit, a man sits silently at a typewriter, a man whose only known function is to type. When he unwittingly begins to examine his circumstances dramatic repercussions are inflicted on his surroundings, provoking visits from his coworkers upstairs and below. The ensuing clash of interests ignites a race against time as the three struggle to reach an agreement before their reality descends into complete chaos.

An imaginative and pessimistic satire, The Babel Trunk explores a world of surreal and sideways logic, where notions of “purpose” slip dangerously from grasp the longer they are debated. Inspired foremost by the plays of Samuel Beckett, Freudian Analysis and elements of Judeo-Christian mythology are centrally cast as conceptual provocateurs in this intractable existential drama.
